Did you know that CPSC recommends that overhead elements (monkey bars, horizontal ladders) on commercial playground equipment designed for 2-5 year olds should not be used? The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) states that, "Older children (i.e. 4- and 5-year-olds) are beginning to use flexible climbers, arch climbers, and upper body devices." (Section 5.3.2, Climbing and Upper Body Equipment, Public Playground Safety Handbook). To make sure your children are safe and to help avoid any risk management issues, The Playground, Shade and Surfacing Depot has the following structures available for 4 to 5-year old children in accordance with CPSC guidelines for the use of overhead elements on preschool structures. We have many others that can be designed and are happy to discuss your needs for your commercial play space intended for 4-5 year olds. Overhead elements are necessary to help older preschoolers develop upper body strength and cardiovascular fitness. Low decks as entry points provide the right level of challenge for building confidence and strength.
